Time to shop for your Wedding Dress!

When it comes to choosing your perfect wedding dress there are key things to do and think before you set off on your shopping trip to ensure it is an enjoyable experience rather than a shopping disaster.

When?  The general rule is that you will need 6 months between ordering your dress and your wedding day.  It may be that the first dress you try on is the one or it may take much longer so leave plenty of time.

Do your research.  Buy a couple of wedding magazines and rip out several styles that interest you.  This will give you a starting point as to what you are looking for. 

Plan your day and book appointments with the showrooms that you are planning to visit.  Many showrooms require you to have an appointment to view their dresses.  This means that a dedicated member of staff will be on hand to help you with all your requirements.

Who to take with you?  Keep the entourage to a minimum and avoid taking Children with you.  Pick a couple of friends or family members whose opinion you trust.

What to wear?  Make sure you are comfortable and are not wearing clothes that are awkward or difficult to remove, as you will be changing regularly.  Pick comfortable underwear and consider wearing a strapless bra.  Many of the sales assistants will be helping you into dresses so be prepared to baring a little skin to staff.  Either take with you or wear shoes with a similar heal height to what you will wear on your wedding day.

Finally, trust the wedding shops.  They dress hundreds of brides and know what shapes and colours suit, so if a dress you would never consider wearing is suggested, try it on.  You never know it could be the one!
